Good news with release of State’s Report Card

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

The Department of Education released the State’s Report Card on Friday, January 7th and several schools in the District have made improvements. One of these schools was Austin-East Magnet High School where Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre held a press conference. Dr. McIntyre highlighted those schools that made improvements and had their status changed from “struggling” to “good standing.” There are 14 of these schools to include Spring Hill Elementary School. The highlight of the day was the announcement that Austin-East, which had been slated for “reconstitution,” made improvements and met the state’s standard for Adequate Yearly Progress. This was great news for staff, students, parents/guardians, school administrators and community leaders. We at Project GRAD extend congratulations to all of the schools who have made improvements and those who have come off of “the list.”

Several news agencies reported on the report card. To read more from Lola Alapo with the Knoxville News Sentinel click here. To see video coverage of the press conference click here.
